A ghostly trek to Jamaica Inn!

by cindy ~ July 12th, 2009

Jamaica InnAnyone who knows me, knows I love the “different”, so it stands to reason that I would love something that was haunted! Paul was awesome & came up with the Jamaica Inn to stay at. Like many people I had I heard about the Jamaica Inn in the film based on the book written by Daphne du Maurier, but I didn’t know it was haunted until he told me. A couple of weeks later we saw it was on the TV show Most Haunted, and “wooohooo”, they featured room 5 which was our room booked! How exciting!

But before the Inn we decided to take a drive around the awesome countryside of Bolvarin. As you will see by the video we weren’t disappointed. It ranged from exciting to enchanting. It really is a beautiful area. Though I would predict it is rather cold in the winter, it has that valley/moorish coolness about it.

Bournemouth to Stonehenge, it’s raining!

by cindy ~ July 11th, 2009

Cindy standing on the Bournemouth PierWhat a beautiful morning! Couch cough! It rained most of the night & here it was time to pack up & it still wont stop raining. We woke this morning to a nice puddle forming in the tent due to poor tent design. Water that should fall down the side of the tent, also flowed into our tent. Scavenging for something to mop up with, Paul throws me a chamois, which I am sure is about a century old! To prove my point it kept falling to pieces as I was wiping up!

Pulling the tent down in the rain was fun to say the least! As Paul pulled the extremeties up & threw stuff in the car, I continued to pack & mop water. When it came to pull the tent down it had to be timed with a stop in the rain, and then a quick flick off of excess water before quickly packing it away. There was no way we were going to get that tent dry in a hurry, it was well & truly soaked.

The Horses of New Forest just wander around

by cindy ~ July 10th, 2009

Horses of new ForestIt was after 5pm that we finally made our way into new Forest, Holmsley, after a beautiful drive through some awesome countryside. No one was at the front office/shop, so we made our way around the caravan park looking for a camping pitch.

It was pretty full this time of year. Campers & caravaners everywhere. Most of the powered sites were taken, so we picked the best spot we could & started to set up camp. One of the camping rules was that campers be positioned 6 meters apart, so we had to make sure that there was sufficient room between us & other campers. Not an easy task as most campers didn’t take new campers into account when setting up their power supply & area. Each powerpole had 2 outlets, however most campers decided that they would use both power outlets. So short of disconnecting them, we had to make do with what we could.

Having fun in the sun @ Brighton … What sun??

by cindy ~ July 8th, 2009

Grand Hotel BrightonEven as you enter Brighton you can feel the holiday beachside atmosphere. Driving down the main drag it reminded me of being on a movie set. The grandeur of the buildings & the alfresco lifestyle all lent itself to being a great place to spend the summer holidays… that is of course if the sun actually shon!

We wanted to get more of a look around, but finding parking was proving to be a nightmare. So we kept on driving, which wasn’t a bad thing as the countryside was beautiful.

Getting down & muddy @ Southdown Farm, Keyser

by cindy ~ July 7th, 2009

Worktime on the eeepc'sWe got a little lost finding Southdown Farm, where we were setting up the 3man tent for the night. We decided that as it was just one night there, it wasn’t worth setting up the big tent. While driving around we got to have a look at the cute little village of Keyser, and found a supermarket. I didn’t have a pillow, so had visions of returning after we set up the tent to buy one. We also didn’t have any food at this point, so we made note of where it was to return to stock up on a few supplies.
